What else should I know?

The Clutha Gold Trail is only a few minutes away and is open all year round.

73km of easy-grade trail passes through Lawrence starting at Bellview Wetlands, onto the Chinese Settlement which was established with the arrival of prospectors to the goldfields. Evans Flat was known for its rope making from flax fibre, and onto the Big Tunnel Hill. Up to 100 men formed a railway tunnel, 22 Chain or 434m in length (advisable to take a headlight or use bike light). Then a gentle cruise to Beaumont and on to Millers Flat, Roxburgh and Roxburgh Hydro.

The Clutha Gold Trail takes you on a trail of discovery within a landscape of out-standing natural beauty. Ride alongside the Clutha Mata-au River and through the secluded valley with all of the magnificient views and farmland.

Now open is the trail from Lawrence to Milton and the extension on to Waihola is coming along nicely but not fully open as yet.
